Mounjaro price changes in the UK: what it means for our patients

posted 18th August 2025
What has changed
- Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro (tirzepatide), is raising the UK list price from 1 September 2025.
- This applies across the private sector. Pharmacies, online providers and clinics all buy from the same wholesalers
- The medicine has not changed. Safety, dosing and effectiveness are the same.
- NHS pricing is separate and not affected.
Why prices are increasing
From 1 September 2025, Eli Lilly will lift the UK wholesale list price for Mounjaro. Wholesalers pass this on to pharmacies and clinics, so private prices move as well. The medicine itself has not changed; this is a pricing decision rather than a change to the product.
Who is affected
- Private patients who pay out of pocket for Mounjaro.
- If your next order is billed after 1 September, your price may change.
What we are doing
- We will keep you informed before any change to your plan. You do not need to contact us.
- We will continue to prescribe Mounjaro when it is clinically appropriate and the best option for you.
- We can process advance supplies at the current price up to the cut off dates below, subject to clinical assessment and stock.
- If cost is now a concern, we can discuss switching to Wegovy (semaglutide). It is an effective alternative and, for many people, more affordable at present.
- We are a doctor run, regulated clinic and will support you with safe alternatives where needed.
Order at the current price (cut off dates)
If you wish to stay on Mounjaro and beat the price rise:
- Up to 2 months supply via our partner pharmacy for delivery if the order is placed by 30 August 2025.
- Up to 6 months supply if collected from clinic and paid in advance by 28 August 2025.
- Higher doses (12.5 mg and 15 mg): maximum 2 pens via our partner pharmacy and maximum 2 pens via clinic collection (total 4 pens per patient). This limit overrides the general month-by-month allowances above.
Payment must be made in advance of the collection date.
Important: All advance supplies are subject to a clinician review, stock availability and the product expiry date. We will only dispense what is clinically appropriate. Please store your pens as directed in the patient information leaflet.
Considering Wegovy?
Wegovy (semaglutide) is a good option for many of our patients:
- Results: At higher doses, semaglutide has delivered around 20% average weight loss in trials, bringing outcomes closer to higher dose tirzepatide.
- Heart health: Wegovy is licensed in the UK to lower the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with obesity and established heart disease.
- Practicalities: Weekly pens and a clear titration schedule. We pick a starting dose based on your history and tolerance, not a one size fits all chart.
Switching with us: how it works
- Text us or use the website form and ask for a switch review.
- A clinician reviews your history, current dose, side effects and goals.
- We agree a personalised start dose and titration plan.
- Prescription is issued for delivery or clinic collection.
- We check in soon after your first dose and adjust if needed.
Safety and good practice
- Do not overlap weekly GLP 1 injections. We will advise on timing when moving from one medicine to another.
- If you are still settling on a dose or have significant side effects, we will not issue large advance supplies.
- Only use UK regulated pharmacies. Avoid unregulated websites or social media sellers.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to do anything now?
No. We will email or text you if your subscription is affected. If you would like to discuss options sooner, get in touch.
Will my price definitely go up?
The manufacturer list price has increased. Final prices vary between providers because pharmacies set their own retail prices. We will always be transparent about any change to your plan.
Can I stay on Mounjaro?
Yes, if it remains the right treatment for you and supplies are available. We will not switch you unless you choose to or it is clinically advised.
Can I switch to Wegovy?
Yes. We offer a smooth, clinician led switch with clear guidance on dose. We will agree a plan that suits your history and tolerance.
Is the NHS affected?
No. NHS supply and pricing are separate.
